Pirates of the Caribbean - Adventureland - Disney's Magic Kingdom Park
"Dead men tell no tales . . ." One of the most popular attractions in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, was was refurbished recently in order for the ride to be updated to coincide with the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men’s Chest. Characters from the movie (the sequel to the immensely poplar Curse of the Black Pearl, Disney's first PG-13 film) including Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and his nemesis Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), as well as new special effects, were added to this classic attraction during the overhaul.
One of the original “E Ticket” attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, Pirates made its debut in Adventureland on December 15, 1973, just a little over two years after the official opening of the theme park on October 1, 1971. Located near the back of Adventureland and adjacent to the Jungle Cruise, this approximately 10-minute-long attraction (which takes place entirely indoors) allows you to cruise through secret caves, witness exciting sea battles and view a bustling Caribbean island town that has become overrun with a host of unruly audio-animatronic pirates, as well as various audio-animatronic animals, including chickens, pigs, donkeys, dogs and cats. Enjoy their lively antics as well as the entertaining background music, “Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me!” (The PIrates of the Caribbean theme song was written in 1967 by George Bruns and Xavier Atencio.)
Dining opportunities near Pirates of the Caribbean include El Pirata Y El Perico Restaurant, Pecos Bill Café and Sunshine Tree Terrace, among others. Pick up your Pirates of the Caribbean souvenirs at the Pirates Bazaar near the attraction’s entrance in Adventureland.
The most popular attraction in Disney’s Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, Pirates of the Caribbean also can be found at Disneyland (where it debuted in 1967), Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland.
Note: Portions of Pirates of the Caribbean, including the skeletons and 14-foot drop near the beginning, as well as the epic sea battle with booming cannons, may be too frightening for young children.
